Salton Sea a once planned and developed resort community, with yacht clubs and Restaurants. Entertainers such as Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys played there. It is now a ghost town full of bohemian style art, empty lots and demolished homes. The increasing salinity, shrinking waters, plus the toxic environment, made this city feel like a post-apocalyptic town in the desert. Since I believe in the Buddhist saying “to turn poison into medicine” I felt it would be an unusual photographic opportunity. The sunset was incredible and the birds were abundant. Even though fascinating, the sense of danger is heavy. History shows that environmental disasters do happen even in the world's richest economy, I’m glad I had a chance to visit before this lake eventually disappears.
